During my freshman year of college while attending the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa, I endured one of the toughest battles of my life. I was unfortunately diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Dealing with Crohn’s so far from home at only 18 years old while also playing football, was a lot for me to handle.

In the beginning stages, I had no idea what exactly I was dealing with. I was in and out of the Emergency Room because of internal bleeding, constant pain, vomiting, and taking a ridiculous amount of over the counter medication that didn’t really help at all. I didn’t get confirmation that it was Crohn’s until Christmas break that year.

With my diagnosis and the hope that the medicine my doctor prescribed would work, I told my parents that I still wanted to go back and try to finish my freshman year and participate in offseason…

I am a witness to God's faithfulness, protection and mercy. In January of 2018, my husband started experiencing severe back pains, at times bad enough where he could not walk. I took him to the ER and they diagnosed it as back spasms and gave him muscle relaxer. That did not work. The pain continued in his lower back. We went to a local urgent care facility and they said they couldn't find anything. However during March of 2018, the pain was so bad that my husband could no longer walk. I literally had to put him in my SUV and I took him to the local MEA. This is where God began to order out steps. I thought I had it all planned out. Highly recruited as a basketball player coming out of high school, I signed a Division 1 scholarship to play college ball and earn my degree — all expenses paid. Two championships later, I was coming off one of my best seasons when I sustained an injury. No big deal, just a small bump in the road, right?

But it was my first time facing major adversity. I was 12 hours away from home, recovering from my injury, while my family was back home caring for my sick grandfather. God does everything for a reason. 12 years ago, the Lord allowed us to be the guardians and protectors of one of his miracles.  Her Name would be Trinity and that is because  The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost saved her even before her life began.  Even the fact of my wife being pregnant was a miracle, because we had been trying for so long.  But early in the pregnancy, we began to have problems.  My wife’s blood pressure wouldn’t not go down and then the unthinkable happened. We went for our first ultrasound and everyone was quiet, then they wouldn’t let us go home, we were sent directly back to the OBGYN. My Testimony is near and dear to my heart.

It's one that truly lets me know that God is Real, God is Faithful, and God most certainly answers prayers. It was a few days before my 49th birthday when I got that dreadful phone call. The one where my Dr. told me I was diagnosed with stage 4 Multiple Myeloma.

My heart dropped. I instantly thought about my wife and kids. I thought about all the things I haven't done or seen. It was on that same day, I told myself this was not going to be my end. I talked to God after the phone call, and He assured me that I was going to be alright. The next day my Oncologist told me with time, a stem cell transplant, and a lot of prayer, he believed he could get me in remission. So my long journey of chemotherapy…
